Freezing Cookies

I don't like to freeze cookies. I do, however, love to freeze cookie dough. Just mix up your favorite cookie recipe like normal. Use a medium-sized scoop and place drops of dough on a cookie sheet or other kind of pan. Place that cookie sheet in the freezer for a couple of hours. Once the dough is frozen, remove from the pan and place in a storage container. I use an old Otis Spunkmeyer tub that came from an over-priced fundraiser at the school. However, it is perfect for storing your own cookie dough, after you've used the good, yet over-priced stuff.

When you want to bake cookies, simply preheat your oven to 325 and place the frozen dough on the cookie sheet. Bake for 16-20 minutes or until done.

You can have fresh-baked cookies any time, in any amount. Want a whole dozen? No problem. Want just 3 or 4? No problem.

Holly's Note:
This is such a life saver. I normally bake one or two sheets of cookies and then just freeze the remainder of the dough.

I was asked to take some cookies to a church social this weekend and I just pulled out a bag of frozen Snickerdoodles, baked them up and delivered them.  My boys love eating the frozen cookie dough though, so often I think I have dough and then I go to get it and I don't!

I haven't found a recipe yet that doesn't work frozen or with the 325, 16-20 min combination.

  1. Hi Holly, I haven't been to your cook site in a couple weeks. Did you change the background? I love it! This is a great idea for freezing cookies, especially when my teens and I really only want to eat the cookie dough and not really make the cookies. I know, not healthy but yummy.

  2. Bree, yes I changed the background. I kind of like it too!

Well, if you're like us, we would eat the whole batch of cookies at once. This way, we can make as many or as few at a time as we'd like. I can bake homemade cookies and feel like a good mom without all the work! LOL!!!

  3. I do this, too! One of my favorite tips. So nice to have fresh cookies on a whim.

  4. Great idea, though I must say with 8 in our family they all go without needing to freeze any.

  5. So clever! I never would have thought of doing that

  6. Very clever! I normally refrigerate my cookie dough for up to two weeks but this is great idea! #tastytuesdays

  7. I freeze my cookie dough around Christmas. I can get started on dough batches early that way. It's a great idea! Popping over from My Uncommon Slice of Suburbia.

  8. I've been wanting to try this, but we go through a whole batch of cookies quickly so I'd have to make a double batch. Maybe soon I will get some frozen.

  12. Wow, now this is a great idea - I've done the roll of dough in the fridge where you slice a few off and bake them as you need them (which is all at once in our house, which totally defeats the whole point) But this way I could do double or triple mix and be a domestic goddess when people come round to visit with my almost instant fresh bakes cookies!

    1. This is exactly what I do Julia! Mix up a double or triple batch and freeze the rest. I love being able to bake a sheet on a whim or at a moment's notice!

  14. Wonderful idea!! But not a good idea for anyone to eat unbaked cookie dough if your eggs come from the supermarket! Especially never ever eat commercial unbaked cookie dough. Better safe than sorry!!

  15. Freezing cookie dough is a great idea this time of year. Just mix up the dough and bake when you need them.

  17. I really need to do this so that I don't have to resort to the pre-made cookies from the store when I need a quick dessert or sugar fix. Thanks for sharing this with Hump Day Happenings!

  21. I have 5 boys who seem to think that a baked cookie simply must be eaten immediately, so I freeze my cookie dough as well. I love doubling or quadrupling a batch of dough and then baking off just a few cookies at a time. It's the perfect balance. I get to be super mom with hot fresh cookies (truly, the way to a boys soul is through his stomach) and my boys get to polish off "all" the cookies:).

    1. Amen Bekki. Sounds like my house! Having frozen dough in the freezer is simply the best isn't it? Fresh cookies and little effort. My only problem is that I have a boy who likes to eat the frozen cookie dough and so I go to bake some and I don't have as many as I thought!

      Thanks for stopping by!

  22. I know it freezes well, but I don't make it enough that when I do I have to bake them all because we love cookies so much! lol! Thanks for sharing with SYC.

  23. We are big cookie eaters over here so this would be dangerous for us :) J/k, we usually make huge batches of cookies and freeze them but you can't beat the hot out of the oven kind :) Great idea!

Thanks for sharing each week on the Art of Home-Making Mondays. May you have a beautiful weekend of family fellowship!
